Who is Nicholas Steele?Nicholas Steele is a pen name. If you dig deep enough you should be able to figure out the "man behind the mask", but a long time ago I made a promise to my wife that all political writings would be handled under a pen name. The reason is simple, my wife has to live with the social consequences of my writing. A long time ago I sent a "letter to the editor." Hooray! It was published! Unfortunately my writing style does not lend itself to quick edits and a summer intern completely flipped the meaning of my work. So I really wasn't published, but my name was in the paper associated with a view I did not, and still do not hold! All letters to the editor after that incident included the following "if you feel the need to change this letter in any way, please do not publish it." Needless to say no one ever saw a letter from me in that paper ever again. A few months later, just in time for Christmas my wife received an anonymous note from a member of our church. The note was critical of the beliefs espoused in the letter I did not write. It was the scary act of a coward and my wife was frightened that someone in our church felt so strongly about the topic but did not have the internal strength to confront us. So, Nicholas Steele was born! Ok, that's not entirely true, the use of Steele was first suggested by my wife when we laughed about romance novel author names. And Nicholas? There is an inside family joke about the name. Go figure. The beliefs published on this website are all mine and I do not fear the editor's pen this time. But a promise is a promise… |
